How to Set Up IPTV on Your Smart TV (2026 Guide)

A complete walkthrough for setting up IPTV on Samsung, LG, and Sony Smart TVs. Works with Smart IPTV, SSIPTV, and the built-in app stores.

How to set up IPTV on a Samsung, LG, Sony or Android Smart TV

Quick answer

To set up IPTV on a Smart TV, install an IPTV player from your TV's app store — IPTV Smarters or SET IPTV on Samsung and LG, TiviMate on Android TVs — then add your Xtream Codes login or M3U link. If your TV has no good app, a £30 Firestick is the simplest fix.

Most Smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense can play IPTV without any extra hardware — you just need the right app and your login details. Which app you use depends on your TV's operating system:

LGwebOSIPTV Smarters Pro, SET IPTV, Smart IPTV
Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense (Android / Google TV)Android TVTiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro

Before you start, have your Xtream Codes login (server, username, password) or M3U link ready, and connect the TV to the internet — ideally with an ethernet cable.

Samsung and LG: IPTV Smarters Pro

Where available in your TV's app store, IPTV Smarters Pro is the simplest option because it signs in with Xtream Codes directly.

  1. Open the Samsung Apps or LG Content Store and search for IPTV Smarters Pro.
  2. Install and open it, then choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
  3. Enter any name, then the username, password and server URL from your provider.
  4. Your Live TV, Movies and Series sections load in under a minute.

Samsung and LG: SET IPTV or Smart IPTV (playlist upload)

These apps load your playlist through their website using the TV's MAC address.

  1. Install SET IPTV or Smart IPTV from your TV's app store and open it.
  2. Note the MAC address shown on screen.
  3. On your phone or computer, go to the app's official website, enter the MAC address and paste your M3U link (and EPG link if supplied).
  4. Restart the app on your TV — your channels appear automatically.

Both apps offer a short free period and then require a small one-off activation fee paid on their website.

Android TV and Google TV (Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense)

Android TVs run the same apps as a Firestick, so you can use TiviMate for the best TV-style experience or IPTV Smarters Pro for a quick free setup.

  1. Open Google Play on the TV and install TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro.
  2. Choose Add playlist → Xtream Codes and enter your server, username and password.
  3. Load the EPG when asked, so the TV guide fills in.

Our Android TV guide has detailed TiviMate settings.

Older TVs or TVs without good apps

If your TV is more than about six years old or its app store has no reliable IPTV player, the easiest fix is a Firestick or Android TV box plugged into an HDMI port. It costs less than a month of a satellite package, and you get access to the best apps. See our Firestick app comparison.

Getting the best picture on your Smart TV

  • Use ethernet rather than Wi-Fi — the biggest single improvement.
  • Pick the right quality: 4K channels need about 25 Mbps; switch to FHD if they stutter.
  • Turn off motion smoothing in the TV's picture settings for sport if it causes artefacts.
  • Keep the app updated from the TV's app store.

Troubleshooting

Channels won't load: check the login details for typos, make sure the subscription is active, and restart the app. In Smart IPTV, press and hold the back button to force a playlist reload.

No TV guide: add the EPG link in the app's settings and allow a few minutes for it to download.

Picture freezes: connect with a cable, restart the router, and lower the channel quality. Our buffering guide covers every fix.

App not available for your TV: use a Firestick or Android box instead.
